New year, new Mario
Nintendo is looking to make some changes to the names of Mario and his friends, but only for Chinese audiences.
Nintendo Hong Kong has announced that Donkey Kong, Princess Peach, and Princess Daisy names are going to be tweaked going forward. The names are being changed in order to make them closer to the pronunciation of the characters’ original names.
This marks the very first time Nintendo has changed character names specifically for China. At least some of these names are likely to be used in the Chinese localization of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, but fans will be seeing these changes in multiple Nintendo projects going forward.
